“Breastfeeding is 90% determination and 10% milk production”
Breastfeeding is a natural process but our social pressure has made it difficult for new moms to accept it.
Whatever a new mom does people question it without having any knowledge about it. This mom shaming is worst in initial days as a new mom is really terrified of making any mistake with it’s newborn.
So, here I am busting myths related to newborn breastfeeding :
1. Myth : You need to feed after every 2 hours.
Truth : Babies don’t come with a clock. In the newborn days, when baby has not gained back birth weight what you need to take care is that baby has 6-8 wet diapers and if the baby is not waking up for long periods of time you’ve to wake him up to feed him.
But once baby gains back their birth weight then whenever the baby demands feed him.
2. Myth : You don’t have enough milk
Truth: All mothers have enough milk to feed their babies that is how human race survives. Every new mother should be focused that Breast is the best. And trust me milk will come. Breast milk works on basic principle of demand and supply. So how much your baby demands, the body will produce. Trust your body.
3. Myth : Baby will sleep longer if fed with formula
Truth : Although it’s true, the reason behind is that formula is heavy for the baby’s stomach to digest and baby sleeps longer. But the signal that your body is getting is that baby doesn’t need milk for this long a period and therefore shouldn’t produce milk. Your supply goes down gradually. And then you are back with second myth we just busted. It’s vicious cycle. Don’t fall for the formula trap.
All newborn moms please comment to let me know if you’ve been victims of these myths.
